Will I need to contact Plusnet

[link to this post]

I mentioned a while back on the forum I may be moving abroad for work and would probably have to cancel Plusnet as a result. Well it's pretty much confirmed that I will be heading abroad now. As soon as I have an exact date I (very soon) will have to give BT notice to cancel my line. Obviously when this takes place it will also effectively cancel my Broadband, the question is do I need to contact Plusnet to give notice of cancellation or will BT contact them? Or should I do it anyway to avoid being charged more than I should.

The other question is with the new t&c's regarding the waiver of further subscription fees will I be charged anything other than the cessation fee (and probably the original £14.99 migration fee? I originally signed up with Plusnet in January 2009 and changed packages to plusnet unlimited in March 2009.

You should alert PlusNet that you intend to cease the telephony on your line and thus cease the Broadband service. As long as you do this 10 days in advance of the cessation, all you will be liable for is your service charge to the cessation date plus the Cessation charge and deferred charges such as Migration fee , "Free" Router etc.

I would suggest that you give notice by raising a ticket and then follow it up with a Telephone call or a Recorded Delivery letter.

I hope this helps...

Thanks, hopefully I shall know some dates soon! I'm just glad the new T&C's came into force when they did.

You will need to contact us.

We require 10 days notice to close the account. If you're outright ceasing the line then you'llincur the £20 cessation fee. As of yesterday the deferred set-up fees for activations and migrations were aligned and are both £30 - If you PM me your username though then I can double check this for you?

Will you be wanting to keep your Plusnet email addresses? If so make sure you ask for your account to be downgraded to dialup PAYG, not closed.
