How could they let this happen?!? - re James

[link to this post]

I was shocked to learn in an aside to another post, that James is to leave PlusNet. frown

There is a huge thread about it on plusnet's forums.

I recall James on these forums since the Metronet days, and he'd somehow managed to retain his helpfulness and diligence through years of customer support and I suspect weird management decisions.

Kudos to you James and "fair thee well".

I am very sorry to hear this.

I do wish James every success in his new role (which happens to be one I have done before, in another life). I personally think it may not be as challenging or rewarding (mentally, not financially) as what he is doing already.

Sorry James - can't help it - I hope I'm wrong.

Sad day for PN members perhaps but nice to read that James is expanding his horizons.

I do believe that you can be doing the same thing for too long and a change and a challenge is sometimes necessary to prevent falling into a rut.

Best of luck James...do pop into our forums now and again........but make sure you lose the ISP tag, some see it as a plot if you don't........ you are an ordinary mortal now.........'aint that great! smile

Just a tad sad..a wee bit old...wink

Yeah - Its interesting to see someone move on in such a different aspect of IT. It will make for a very different working day for James I should think, and it might take a while to adjust. I am glad for him, and as he hinted he's nearly old now, time for a change.

In some ways its a shame to see him leave the ISP world as firms really do need far more people who will "own a problem" and see it through to the end. Its worth every penny in PR, and it has to be as every line problem costs far more than the profit on that line. When playing "Fantasy ISP" (in my head, its like fantasy football but with different kit smile) James was one of those you'd want in the dream team.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your kind words smile

I sincerely hope that the new role is more challenging - I've got a massive amount to get my head around in a very short space of time, so I might actually have to start using the grey matter.

It's been a long stint here (almost 6 years) and leaving feels really weird as Plusnet/Metronet has been such a massive part of my life for so long and I imagine it'll be quite an achievement if I don't have a "moment" on my last day.

TLM - I'll miss talking to you about your bras. smile

I don't think we need to know what kit you see James in in your fantasies tongue.

LoL!

I shall miss being helped with my bras! laugh

Who shall I turn to now?

I hope the Tech Author thing works out OK. I guess it can vary a lot, depending on what you are writing, and for whom. I didn't find it as creative as I had hoped, in a large organisation. It was better in a small, independent firm: more variety, and more personal control over both content and tone. I've done some good jobs: I did the BBC Nine O'Clock News studio, and some stuff for the cockpit of a sea harrier, among other things!

Good luck!

I don't pass this way much these days but in one of those strange synchronicity things just had a quick look in and saw this.

A bit late maybe but thanks and best wishes from a pair of long standing Metronet+Plusnet customers.

Best of luck in your new endeavours, the world needs decent tech writers (are you able to say where you're going?).
