Slow speeds tonight? Plus really bad ping times.

[link to this post]

Just been trying to watch an episode of topgear on iplayer and given up half way into it due to recurring buffering. Even chose the "use lower bandwidth" option and its still buffering every 3-4 mins. Also i was playing call of duty on the xbox earlier and kept getting booted from the games saying it wasn't responding. Did a few tracerts on the pc and they came back horrific! 100-600ms all the way.

Anyone else had any problems? Its been like this on and off for a few weeks now.

Yep, me too, on an IP profile of 7.1MB, only getting 1.5MB. Just recently moved to PlusNet as well! My previous ISP was giving me a rock solid 6.8MB, now I'm obviously beginning to doubt whether I made the right move. Anyone got any idea how long before they sort out the current problems which they blame for slow speeds.

I have been with plusnet now for a while from orange who were awful, but i too have been getting high pings over 140.Although they do respond to emails the instructions they give are so long winded & never work i will be looking elsewhere if they don,t get their act together soon.p.s it's only slow in the evenings which suggests a fault at their end not mine!

Similar problems with the madasafish/PN network since BT took over from Brightview and made Plusnet the mad fishes guardian frown

Edit >>> ping times are not too bad but speed is down a bit, there's a lot of hopping about sometimes (mostly in the evenings) to get on to a less congested gateway/pipe for an improvement.

Hi,

Have you tried putting in the Google DNS?

http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

I have been suffering this for the last week and now put the plunet dns of 212.159.13.49 and the new Google dns of 8.8.8.8 inside the netgear router and you know what it is working! fast.....

Give it a try?

What, if any, security issues with using it?

and

a look at ars tech:

I have much more faith in google than the links of opendns!

Could these problems be due to the Linx problem highlighted here
