VoIP Phone Weirdness

[link to this post]

Hello,

I've had the pleasure of being presented with a VoIP phone by my employer in order that I can man the phones while working from home. Now this all went swimmingly when the phone arrived and I connected it to my router and lo and behold I received calls on it.

This was all fine until the beginning of the week when I got a call from the boss on my mobile to say that my VoIP phone was going straight to voicemail. Checking the phone shows that it is no longer registering the line and hence it doesn't work.

Weirdly I have tried it on another couple of connections and in both cases it works fine. So is there an issue with port 5060 and using the VoIP phone, that is causing it to be blocked in some way? Or should I look around for a solution elsewhere?

Cheers,
Dave

Hi there.

The benefits of working from home smile

Port 5060 is the default port for voip so no issues there from our side. Does the phone itself provide any logs or diagnostics or perhaps the voip server / service provider for your product? That would be my suggested first port of call to see whats going on under the hood so to speak.

Thanks for the reply Mark,

Remarkably after speaking to the supplier if the service and trying the phone elsewhere it magically started working when I plugged it back in again last night. Of course the phone supplier have denied that anything has been done at there end, so I can only assume the internet gnomes have been at work again and magically sorted it.

Cheers,
Dave
