Latency on Plusnet 20CN connections

[link to this post]

I'm on PAYG which has the same traffic management profile as the current Plusnet Pro which is recommended for gamers. All traffic is Gold or better. I'm paying £8 extra for the faster upload given by Max Premium which gives higher priority on the BT network. My exchange is not suffering from contention.

So you'd think that that latency on my line would be good. Well it is until about 7pm when it goes totally to pot.

Hmm, our latency monitoring doesn't mirror what you're seeing jelv. Not one of the pipes is reporting pings above 41ms over the last 24 hours. Having said that I'd have to check whether or not the values are average or actual figures.

Interestingly, my line seems to be reporting similar latency as yours on the TBB monitor.

Can't say I've noticed any problems of late but I'm not an ardent gamer and only occasionally use VoIP.

We're on different gateways at the moment however I believe we're both being routed via Ilford.

Look at the traffic across the pipe I'm connected to. You'll see that there are no packet drops whatsoever and this particular pipe was not maxed at any point last night (until is is I wouldn't normally expect latency to be adversely affected).

I don't do any gaming or use VoIP, but I was having issues with RDP over VPN last night - it kept stalling and at one stage the VPN dropped.

Ilford? From my PPP log:

rcvd [CHAP Challenge id=0x60 <b14169d9e13b96be30251fa2299dde30>, name = "ERX16.Kingston3"]

i was talking about the RAS our 622 traffic is routed through.

Your traffic goes:

You > Exchange > Kingston RAS > Ilford > Us

My traffic goes:

Me > Exchange > Sheffield RAS > Ilford > Us

How were things last night anyway? My monitor was similar however the connection was being used quite heavily at the time.

Absolutely appalling. I was trying to work during the evening and the RDP over VPN kept stalling and completely dropped out at one stage.

Was that reinforced by the TBB graphing jelv?

Edit: Ignore that, I missed the hyperlink in your post.

As it happens mine appeared to be fine last night. Whilst I was still on the same gateway I did suffer a disconnect/reconnect at around 3.10pm yesterday afternoon.

I've added some requests for info to a recent thread over on Community that I've just spotted about latency.
