Getting nowhere ...

[link to this post]

I am currently trying to migrate my broadband an phone over from Sky LLU to Plus.net and I'm getting nowhere fast.

My phone line and broadband went dead three days and I have spent the whole day on the phone to both Sky and Plus.net trying to get the issue resolved.

Plus.net are telling me that they can't port the number unless Sky reactivates the line. Otherwise they will have to install a new line and there is no guarentee that I can keep my current number.

Sky are insisting that if I want to reactivate my line then I am subject to a new 12 month contract.

Any advice?

Why was the line cancelled in the first place? Did you ask them to cancel? If not, then I would say it is Sky at fault but that doesn't mean it will be easy to get it sorted I'm afraid.

Your right I didn't ask to cancel the line. Not sure I will get anywhere with this approach though.

If you where on Sky LLU why the hell would you want to leave to come to plusnet on a BT line?

That being the case it is almost certainly sky's fault. But others have reported the same issues that sometimes it goes through as a cease rather than a migration and it is almost impossible to get it put back in place as it was. You may find your only option is to get a "new line" from plusnet (but be careful as they might then charge for "installation" which can be over £100). Don't envy your position and hope you get it sorted.

Hi Gresty,

Unfortunately we can't port the number if the line has been cancelled - if it has, I'm not sure Sky will be able to guarantee you get the same number if you do choose to reactivate the line with them. New line installation with us is £49.99, though I realise that doesn't help with the number.

As far as taking this up with Sky goes you could try raising the issue with Ofcom, but I'm not sure if there's anything they'll be able to do - it's worth asking though.

Ok I don't mind paying the £49.99 to get this sorted, but is there nothing that can be done about my number. I was told that I *may* not be able to keep my number.

Unfortunately (afaik) the number is only attached to the line as long as the line is active - if the line is disconnected the number returns to the pool of available numbers that the provider can use. As such there's no number available on the line for us to port across.

I'm not liking this, but I've resorted to ordering a new line from Plus.net. Any idea how long I can expect this to take. The guy I spoke to didn't know.

Got mine done in about 7 days, took another day or three for Plusnet to activate the ADSL on it.

Given you can only have the sky phone line and broadband if you keep the TV package, then it looks like Sky cancelled all three.

Migrating away the phone and broadband before cancelling the TV package would probably have worked better.

Is it Skys fault, or of your own making, hard to know without seeing all the converations that took place. I'm sure you did not intend to cancel the phone, but this is one of the problems of bundles where things are so interlinked

Was it originally a Sky number? Or one that was ported to them from BT? You will have more chance of getting it back if Sky were the issuing company to start with.
