5mb profile @ 3.5/4.0mb sppeds

My profile has been at 5000 for some time now but no matter what time of day or night my speeds never break this Speed including in the 12am to 8am "line speed" hours.

Is this purely down to lack of bandwidth on PN or am I missing something ?

This is the first time since coming back to Plusnet months ago that my speeds have never been inline with my profile.

TBB test run a min ago : Link not dire but not what it says on the tin either.

Plusnet Line speed webpage : Current line speed: 5000

LIne Stats :
DownStream Connection 5696 kbps
UpStream Connection 448 kbps
Line Attenuation Down : 50.0 db Up : 28.5 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 15.0 db

Connection has been rock solid from day 1.

BT Test showed the same results as the TBB one.

No, it doesn't! It shows your important IP Profile as well.

I meant the speed result was the same.

My Profile (at both the BT speedtest page and plusnet) is at 5000!

If my IP profile wasn't at 5000 i wouldn't be expecting that my speeds be higher, this isnt my first rodeo with IP profiles.

Your Sync is v. good for that attn. "Normally" your IP Profile could be 4000 Kbps. You are on G.DMT (ADSL)?

It initially started off at 4500 with snr @9.5(ish) when we first moved in but with DMT (and a sprinkling of impatience) it came up to 5000 @6 to 7db and has been solid since but so far speeds haven't increased to match.

Well for what it's worth, I'm on a profile of 7150 and get usually get around 6.1 to 6.2 Meg. So if we chop a similar amount off your profile, you should get between 4.0 to 4.1 as a ballpark figure.

It might be worth trying out the TBB latency tool:

You can use it to get an idea of if you latency is solid or jumpy, even when idling (so to speak). Per the example pic in the link, you'll see the lowest latency is in green. Generally my latency to TBB is low 40s.

You can also check out the latency to the DNS servers. Download this little file I use:

www.camieabz.co.uk/batfiles/pingdns.bat

If not familiar with batch files, run a dos command window, see the default path, and drop the file to said path, then just type "pingdns" in the dos window.

That should show you if there are any massive differences between the Plusnet's DNS servers for you. Then it's a case of changing the default preferred serves in Windows and / or your router config.

Generally I find most of any slowing down problems are contention or latency. There's a couple of other little tricks to speed things up, but you need to ID if it's latency or not first.

Packets: Sent - 10, Received = 10, Lost = 0 <0% loss>,
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds :
Minimum = 43ms, Maximum = 44ms, Average = 43ms

off to try the TTB Latency tool.

It's not done by chopping off but by proportioning. Just take 83% of your Sync as a ballpark figure.
