BT Wholesale Error

[link to this post]

Over the last few days I've had quite a few instances of a BT Wholesale Service Information page pop up when trying to browse the web, saying that either the BT Wholesale access circuit to the service provider is down or the service provider is unable to accept the connection request. Once this message appears, I can't access any web page for a while.

Is anyone else getting this with Plusnet, or does anyone know why it's started to be a problem?

I've been getting this *screenshot* intermittently since about 7 am in Whitefield in Manchester. Is this what you're getting?

Yes that's the one but I've been getting it on and off for the last 2 or 3 days. I'm in South Cheshire - maybe it's some kind of problem in the North West.

I am in South Cheshire (Holmes Chapel) and it's happened to me on at least 2 occasions (17:30 yesterday and 13:00 today). Each time, I stayed connected to Plusnet, so it appears to be something between Plusnet and BT.

I raised a ticket today, and Plusnet have said:-

"We have had a few reports of this and will be monitoring to see if it continues to occur and worsens over the coming hours/days.

At this time we are not aware of the cause etc, could be an issue on BT's side which we are unaware of however we need to collect a number of examples before we can raise it."

Suggest anyone getting the issue reports to Plusnet so they can investigate.

I have been getting the issue again intermittently pretty much all afternoon.

Strangely, sometimes it is only certain websites that redirect me to the BT page, eg: www.consolerepairs.co.uk

I have stayed connected to Plusnet throughout. Just tried disconnecting and re-connecting to Plusnet and as it stands I still cannot get to the above website.

Have written to Plusnet again, and am awaiting a response.

OK, right now, I can get to www.google.com and www.thinkbroadband.com, but CANNOT get to www.consolerepairs.co.uk or www.plus.net (!!)

Really weird stuff going on somewhere.

Sometimes I couldn't access any website but other times I could with some and not others. The last time I had this was between 16:45 and 17:30 on Saturday. Everything seemed ok yesterday.

All I've had from Plusnet is that they are looking in to it.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that, do you have DNS servers set in the router or do you leave it set to get dynamically from ISP?

If it's the latter please try specifying DNS servers - the Plusnet ones are:
212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10
212.159.13.49
212.159.13.50

We usually find that this sorts the issue, hope it helps.

Hi Matthew,

I'm having the same issue - seems to be intermittent (over the last week or so) and doesn't seem to affect all websites. I've had a check and my (plusnet provided) netgear router is picking up DNS servers automatically bu they are the first two in your list above. Any other suggestions?

Additionally, I thought best practice was to allow the router to pick these up automatically to avoid issues if / when they changed?

Cheers,
Nick

Try setting the DNS servers to be used in your PC network settings and bypass the router. I'd also suggest setting an additional server or two such as Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

Hmm, they've not changed in a long while - to be honest I thought the issue was caused by them not being assigned properly when a connection was established with a router that's set to get them automatically. That being the case even if you use the top two when you specify the servers you should get a working connection.

Please let me know if that's not the case though.
