Moved to PN, but no MAC needed?

[link to this post]

Hey all,

So I'm moving from ADSL24/Coms FTTC to PN Unlimited Fibre but was not given the option to pass on my MAC from Coms.

Phoned PN the nice guy on the phone checked and it didn't ask him for one either so as suggested I did the order as normal. But its got me down for an engineer visit next week to install etc. Obviously I have an OR modem, and am connected to the fibre cab already.

The guy on the phone did say it should all be picked up by the team who ordered the move etc and if they need my MAC they will ask for it, but I just wanted to check this was all normal moving from one FTTC to another? As I'm not sure it is.

I dont want to be left without service or whatever obviously.

Any advice?

Ta!

I'm another FTTC ADSL24 refugee.
I signed up on the 1st April via the website and part of the details asked for during the data input was the MAC.
There was the option not to input it, leave it blank and provide it later.
Perhaps you missed it?

I wondered that too, so i went though the process again, Still nothing.

But like i said the PN guy on the phone said he didn't have the option either.... :/

EDIT: Hang on, I had previously ordered Sky Fibre then cancelled it the day before, could that be it?

Hi Cruncher,

Do you have any ticket number to hand or if you pop your username on a PM to me I'll take a look for you?

I wish someone would sort mine out.
The order tracker has been stuck on "Checking Your Line" for a couple of days now.
Simple Fibre to Fibre transfer. What's to check?

Thanks Chris,

I feel like I'm back in the good old ADSL24 days of yore.

Well, migration happened overnight.

Speedtests before and after...

I'd do more testing tonight, I'm missing a bit off my DL. laugh

A quick thanks again to Chris for making sure it all got sorted and didn't go tits up. smile

Insignificant variation! It's only throughput not sync.

I think it is becoming clear that speed test results on Plusnet are a bit lower than the same line on other WBC suppliers. Plusnet argue this is due to the way the speedtest timers work being affected by the buffering inherent in the prioritisation system, and that the actual speed is higher than reported.

I can't quite get my head round it, as I don't know exactly how the speed tests know when the first and last packets are received by you, but I think it's to do with the length of time to empty the buffer being added to the real transmission time. Sometimes that looks OK to me, other times I look at it and think it's rot.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Wow, you are a bundle of laughs aren't you..... :/

@Rob, I see, I have seen something similar mentioned before, maybe on here. As our friend above clearly missed, Its not that big of a deal as long as the speeds are consistent and pings are good (I'm a PC gamer) I'll be happy. smile
