Poor speeds this afternoon ?

[link to this post]

Is anyone else suffering from poor speeds this afternoon ?

My router is syncing at 6944kbps, but surfing is painfully slow and speedtests are only showing 400-500kbps.

This, coupled with the frequent disconnections I've been experiencing recently is really starting to concern me.

Incidently - I never suffer normally from contention problems at my exchange - even at busy times of the day or night.

No, I am getting data rates of ~ 3000Kbps fairly consistently.

The issues reported seem to be related to P2P and gaming - I'm just surfing !

Some webpages are taking anything up to 1-2 minutes to open fully, which is even slower than the speedtest is implying.

HTTP traffic is in the gold queue as is encrypted p2p. If there is a *lot* of encrypted p2p traffic on the network at the moment (it is Sunday afternoon), then I expect it will have an effect on folks who are surfing. It sounds like PN urgently need to apply a rate-limit to the traffic group encrypted p2p falls under (tcp other I think) to give the surfers a chance. I would suggest phoning them, but...

I am sure I read somewhere that the Ellacoyas were being updated (not sure when because I can't find the notification) to provide easier and more accurate encrypted p2p identification. I would have thought the main reason for this would be to move encrypted p2p off the gold profile into the bronze one.

ADSLGuide Speedtest. I really don't know what protocol that uses but as I am a BB+ customer. I would expect my p2p speed to be crippled. I get similar speeds using PlusNet's own Speed Tester.

The speedtest is TCP and I think that will fall under the category "TCP Other".
