0845 number becomes 0870...?!

I've just been looking at the portal, and the new Help pages appear to have gone live (was that last night?) and noticed the following...

Yet, I'm sure it used to be (and have confirmed it as being the case by checking Google's cached version) this:

0845 002 0173


So why the change from 'lo-call' 0845 to 'national rate' 0870?

The Google cache for 15/9/06 seems to confirm your point.

As I see it, changing the service status information line from a lo-call rate to national rate, would likely penalise customers who are experiencing a fault with their service, and thus already feeling a level of dissatisfaction with Plusnet. The sort of customers that Plusnet need to do more to satisfy, going forward, to recover their previous reputation- not charging more for them to establish what's going on.

Have just dialled the 0845 number and it appears to still be giving out service status information!

With current service levels and the vast number of support calls Plusnets taking this may be a good method to off-set the cost of all the customers wanting they're MAC codes so they can leave.
