Hi
Yes I am on LLU so following and affected by these problems.
Why these problems, no puzzle really, it just comes down to poor management and running things on a shoestring.

Re : I do hope to god that they + never offer me the chance to go LLU
Only one problem with that, they don't offer - they enforce. I was blindsided (sorry LLUed) without being asked, even though they said I would receive an email with an option to opt-out. Two months of **** connection and I quit, or rather I cancelled my direct debit because no-one would cancel my contract. If you read through the forums you'll see that they LLU you even if you request that they don't. Be afraid, be very afraid!

I hope that you have demanded a refund for your two months of zero service.

It's an interesting ponder, and I too wonder why the LLU route is just so poor. My guess, based on seeing previous experiences with Tiscali, and NTL, is that neither of them are particualrly good providers.
Tiscali have always been very poor, including Wholesale (although some may have you believe Retail/Wholesale are different, the wholesale arm is very poor), and NTL are a provider I would refuse to have provide any form of communications service to me.
That, coupled with Plusnet's other problems just adds to the woe - for example, today, Plusnet lost connectivity at Telehouse North, which meant all of the LLU service they run died on it's behind. Why? Because they only invested in one gateway that LLU users can connect to, and, it's thus at risk if anything dies. Which it did, being power in this particular outage.
LLU has nothing to do with a service being more or less reliable, and Plusnet are proving that. Some people would have you believe LLU is an end to all your worries, particularly as it's emblazoned with claims of ultra fast 24 meg connectivity a lot of the time. That's hype, and always will be when it comes to promoting the latest/greatest.
I'd not touch LLU at all, given you can't easily escape it.

I just think, as a certain sig around the parish says, 'comms is hard'
Perhaps Plusnet should have tied up a deal with one of the LLU players that had got the hang of it rather than one that was just starting out.
Most LLU players have had problematic rollouts and Tiscali are no different. Obstructing migration though is a classic restrictive / anti-competitive practice and one the regulator should act on.

Comms isn't hard. If you've got the right kit, the right staff and the right knowledge, it's easy.
Plusnet have a combination of poor kit (those stupid storage things, dumb, really dumb), poor staff (whoops, I pressed the red button) and poor knowledge of resilience, which probably gets mixed with poorly thoughtout "money saving ideas" to keep budgets down, and a determination to be first to do things that nobody else seems to need to do to survive.

Do you mean to say that Plus.net seem to be taking more risks than they need to?

"Do you mean to say that Plus.net seem to be taking more risks than they need to?"
Blaming the staff, blaming the kit, blaming not spending a wedge on more kit, blaming anything but yourself. I think therioman is angling for a senior mgmt position at PN...
