Moving house affects MaxDSL?

[link to this post]

Before I moved house, I was happy with MaxDSL and had no problem with it at the old house. Could achieve around 7mb easily.

I moved house 2 months ago. Only about 1 mile up the road and still within the town distance of the local exchange.

Yet I got [censored] speed. Best I can do was 2.5mb but always less.

Router are set up correctly. I've shelled out for new microfilters, rebooted router and waited 10 days and more - all nothing.

Does moving house affects MaxDSL? Am I back to the waiting list of getting MaxDSL? Or it's automactilly set up when I got the BT line enabled at the new house?

I've contacted Plusnet who told me to run a BT speedtest between 12am and 4pm, which I have done so. (mostly between 2000 and 2700) and am waiting for a reply from Plusnet.

Is there anything else I can do apart from bugging Plusnet?

Thanks all.

Check on the router to see what the sync speed is. It's probable you have MaxDSL, just you have a poor quality line that is further from the exchange so cannot manage as high speeds as your old house & line. The difference from being a mile down the road may mean that the line goes a different way to the exchange. I have two lines at my house. They both leave the house through the same underground cable. One can manage about 2meg more than the other.

Say around 3.7MB but I can't achieve that yet!

SNR Margin: 9.0
Loop Att. 35.5

The other factor that has changed is internal wiring. It may or may not contribute to your problem, and the only way to be sure is to connect to the master socket.

If you get the same speeds you can rule out that factor.

As I understand it all new connections for PN are on MAX and the speeds you get seem to confirm that.

The oher question is what does the stable rate status page at https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate give? You may be syncing at 3.7Mb/s now but the router can't sustain that under all conditions. The stable rate page is based on the speed your router can sustain over a few days (rounded down to nearest 0.5Mb/s). So if (say) during the evening the noise goes up (and so the SNR goes down) then the router may not be able to hold sync and will resync at a lower rate, if this is just below 3Mb/s then the max sustainable rate will come out at 2.5Mb/s and you will never be able to achieve download rates higher than this.

Unfortunately MaxDSL is very sensitive to line length and line noise. While you have some control over what happens inside your home, the line length, the quality of the line and the noise it is exposed to are all outside of your control.

The stable rate says...

Your High-speed Broadband Service: Your current broadband speed is 8000 Kbps

The internal wiring could be the other issue too... I'll check out the wiring and see what I can find.

Thanks for the replies.

I did re-wiring and it increased my speed from 4meg to 8meg.
