8mb Question - Just Been Upgraded

[link to this post]

Firstly, apologies if i'm asking a daft question, but here goes........

Was upgraded from 2mb to 8mb yesterday afternoon. My downstream connection speed is 7616 kbps and upstream is 448 kbps. Everything seems rock solid and there are no problems.

However, even though I understand that the first 10 days are a period of bedding in/testing, i'm confused by the fact that i'm actually getting 2mb download speeds, almost identical to what I had before. For example, I downloaded a file this morning that came through at 235 k/s, which is about what I would get before the upgrade.

And here's my speed test results:-

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=11606503377197626094

Have re-booted the Router a couple of times (as recommended), and nothing is any different. I'm not impatiant or anything, but i'm just hoping someone can clarify what I should expect, and is this typical of the sort of thing that happens after an upgrade?

TIA.

Don't bother using that speed test.

http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/

is the one to use, it does get busy and you
get time out errors, but it tells you
IP profile for your line,
DSL connection rate, (up and downstream)
Actual IP throughput.

Thanks for that. In the Portal, it says the following:-

Your High-speed Broadband Service

Your current broadband speed is 2000 Kbps

What does this speed mean?
This is the speed that the network supplier is telling us you should expect on your line. If your hardware is reporting higher speeds, you can try and automatically update this speed by disconnecting and reconnecting once a day for 3 days.

I've done 1 disconnect/re-connect today.........i'm guessing it might increase over time?

it takes 2 to 3 days to test to get your max speed,

They put 10 days as BT wont do anything until the
10 days are up.

I would keep and eye on it over the next few
days and see how it goes.
