Speaking With Police Regarding +net

[link to this post]

I'v just got off phone from MIL.

Apparently the guy from +Net Customer support rang my MIL on the 4:36pm, Wednesday 4th October 2006 and asked her for her payment details (direct debit) and took the whole card numbers (Including the long number strip).

I have said Previously that we have been tryining for +net to take payment using her DD details, and they keep cutting her off.

Could it be that someone that works for +net has stolen her Card Details, as this could be the reason why it has not been added to there systems.

We have decided to call the police regarding this because we think something underhand may be happening - its a simple task just to get her payment details onto there system.

She is going to contact the bank first thing in the morning to see if any payments have been taken since the 4th for other items.

Did she get the reps name? Might be one of the first questions the police ask. Also check the closed questions as reps are supposed to make entries when they make contact with a customer and I would hope especially when dealing with finances.

I doubt the details have been stolen, more like gross incompetance I`m afraid.

Yes we have the full name of the guy from Plusnet, I'm starting to feel along the lines that her card details have infact been stolen - as you would think it would have updated on +net's system and could be why her account was closed.

Question topic: Billing | ID: 20411283 (IF someone from +net reads this they can check the callers details from +net)

4:36pm, Wednesday 4th October 2006 - we received the call around this time.

We'v just called the bank in the last five minutes and they have Marked the card has "Stolen" as they also think on the same lines as us, and told us to speak with the police in the morning.

Plusnet allready had her DD details (Card Number everything) on there system, for some reason this guy from +net wanted all the details which is pretty strange - not sure why they would ask this over the phone ?

I'm a little confused by card details for a DD as this requires the Bank sort code and account number. Something odd in asking for those. Asking for the DD details could be if the bank refused the DD mandate I guess.

Does she not receive bank statements? Perhaps a look through those might help.

Have you looked through your closed tickets and does it state that next payment will be taken by direct debit? I used to get an advance email informing me when the next payment was due to be taken but checking under the closed tickets will also reveal this. Lastly, send an email to [email protected] (Ian Wild) and hopefully he can look at it. From the scant information that has been presented it does look like a problem on the part of PN but nobody can be sure unless the tickets were copied and pasted here. I do believe in everything you have stated because you would have no reason to lie so try the email and see if it works.

I've just asked a PUG member to point this thread in the direction of PN.

Rsharma, I asked about the payment notification ticket in a previous thread as it makes it a lot easier to work out the start of the problem and identify possible causes. So far the OP hasn't replied though.

It would appear taking the full card details is just making a charge on her debit card, as opposed to using DD. As Vince has said, DD`s need bank account details not debit card details.

I would agree.

The CSC rep probably went the quickest route to get you off the phone and your account reactivated (ie, credit/debit card as opposed to setting up the direct debit again that could take days).

Just a thought but can the OP log into the system to copy the tickets? I would hazard a guess that an account suspension would lead to being unable to do this but I could be wrong.
