Throttling?

[link to this post]

My monthly usage is normally 2gb or less. I wanted to dl something today though using DC++ . I remember from the past that for some reason with plusnet I cannot dl files using DC++ at speeds higher than 1.2kbs. Is it possible they have throttled the ports that DC++ uses?

Its not good, is it?

I left Plusnet a while back for more reasons than this, and if its any consolation, the ISP I joined 7 days ago now throttle as well.

The whole backbone of the UK from infrastructure, to traditional British consumers are backward IMHO, very few people are prepared to stand up and say, enough is enough against constant squeezing out any thing that was good in the first place.

Even though I'm not a Plusnet customer anymore, i follow this board with interest because people like Rsharma and PR100 stood up to be counted, instead of lying over and being tramped upon by company's like Plusnet that take advantage of small print and attempt to operate just inside the law.

If you cant browse at a decent speed, then you may as well be on dial up, get your MAC and seek advice on an ISP with better customer standards.

Good luck

(exact same answer to a similar complaint here, thats what copy and paste is for)

I'm not a vocal person so I showed my unhappiness the best way I could, with my feet.

I can now browse 24/7 (crappy line permitting), can max my line out by any protocol I want, when I want.

I dont ask much - I'm not a high bandwidth user (peak time usage for August, Sept and so far in October are 849Mb, 678Mb and 562Mb respectively) but I want a fast connections when I do use it. There are ISP's that can do this, you've just got to look around.

I had an answer from plusnet earlier:

You are currently on teh broadband plus account this is not designed
for downloading from usenat and p2p and your download speeds will be
permantly low from these applications.

If you would like to make the most of these applications than i would
suggest that you upgrade to the broadband premier account.

As you say the usage is typically less than 2GB per month, you would have been better advised to switch to PAYG. This account has the least throttling.
