Almost had enough of PN...Zen???

[link to this post]

Useless CS and poor reliability is now making me think about leaving PN after almost 5 years. At the moment only Zen looks like an alternative. Any comments? I must have more than one mailbox, Static IP, "free" Spam&AV, plus I'd like plenty of webspace if poss. All for under

If you can find a Zen product that meets your requirements at a price you're prepared to pay you will almost certainly enjoy a far better internet experience. Zen is a premium service provider with higher charges that enable them to invest properly in their network, and not deploy 'clever' technologies that interfere or frustrate your internet experience.

It just depends what value your put on your internet usage, how often you use it, and whether you can justify the extra cost to receive a higher quality service. Zen are about the best in the business.

Only other thing to note is Zen has been inundated by new customers and they've been struggling a little bit on the CS side of things. They have been recruiting to address this problem. Chances are though, you wont need to call on Zen very much because the service does exactly what it says on the tin

Thanks very much for the feedback. We are thinking about it now, my parents now use the internet so its more important to have a stable system. I have invested in a new Draytek router and so be without proper DNS or broken POP3 defets the object of paying out for quality gear.

Do they throttle P2P? Don't do much myself but its interesting to know. Their 8Mb

Moved my home account from PN last year, after 9 years, due tho ever increasing restrictions on usage and moved my office account after the email problems in April/May.

I regret not moving sooner. Except for a few service problems in the last 10 days which have been promptly dealt with I haven't needed to keep an eye on service status. Unlike PN no empty promises of fixing things and then waiting weeks for improvements.

Zen have no restrictions on how you use your account and an uncontended internal network. P2P works fine, as does everything else. Zen aren't as slick with their portal as PN. The default email address is naff, [email protected] where X is a digit. I haven't tried aliases for email so don't know what you can do to change this, I have my own mailserver set up while still with PN to get round their problems so no longer rely on my ISP for email.

I've rung CS 2 or 3 times due to BT related issues, no duff ticket system to get in the way of communication. Each time CS were clear about the issue, unlike PN where CS just tried to blame my set up and get me off the phone.

Hi, sounds good to me. use my own domain so the mail address does not bother me. Sounds like they have a nice "cosy" CS centre rather than a large ticket based one.

Well, if the problem is not sorted by the end of next week (two weeks after raising the ticket) then I'll ask for my MAC.

Thanks for your comments.

Zen now offers a further ten free e-mail addresses. You are required to create a sub-domain via your portal account. for example www.bottomfeeda.myzen.co.uk would give you a 1GB web presence and up to ten POP3 email accounts manageable through the portal of the format: [email protected]

check the features at:

Apologies for the forum poaching, just wanted to correct the features

Arrr! Nice to hear from Zen!!! Ta for the details, I'm sure there are MANY on here in the same situation I'm in and prolly heading in the same direction. Might be worth keeping a close eye on this forum. I'm sure the others won't mind you popping up!

Oh, one other query, my webspace with PN has frontpage enabled so I update to fp.blarblar rather than ftp.blarblar...... Do Zen offer this?

Thanks.

No. You get basic html hosting only but you can upgrade to their bronze hosting package instead or choose a third party hosting solution.

So I just use ftp instead? I have Frontpage 2000 and just do my website in spare time.
