A question about option 1

[link to this post]

My mother in law has a wii and although she doesn't play online games, she does occasionally download old megadrive games from the online wii shop via the console. She is moving from BT to plusnet soon, does any-one know if she will still be able to do this on option 1?

Hi,

I wouldn't have thought there'd be a problem, gaming isn't blocked on Option 1 so would still work, it's just set at a lower priority so small downloads like Megadrive games would be fine.

Hi,

According to this page it looks as if online gaming is blocked on option 1? Under the explaination it says the games that are blocked are "Games such as World of Warcraft and online games consoles - not games played in your web browser such as Yahoo Pool."

It'd be a near impossible job to completely block gaming on Option 1. On the other Options gaming is set as titanium, the highest priority, to give the best ping times but on Option 1 we set it lower so it's not really suited to playing online games, at least not for a regular gamer, but as I say should still allow small downloads because they don't need the prioritised ping times.

Thanks for the explaination, thats good as it means option 1 is near ideal for my mother in law. Apart from a very occasional game download for her wii she only ever sends text emails and does shopping online, her average monthly usage is about 600 - 700 MB.
