Hi,
Anyone from PN able to give an estimate for when/if I will be able to login to the portal again from an international IP?
I realise this is a response to your webmail server compromise, but will this be a permanent change? I live in sweden now, so I manage my UK connection remotely, it's a bit of a pain having to bounce through vnc to the UK, just to access my account/forum/status/tickets.

The block is temporary but no time frame has been given as to when it will be removed.

The hilarious thing is, I don't see what actual good the block is doing. Anyone who really wants to can easily get around it, while for the majority of legitimate users, it causes problems.
It's more a case of being seen to do something than actually doing something useful IMHO.

Have to agree. Innocent customers who have a legitimate reason cannot sign in now. Those who may be looking to take advantage of flaws in the plusnet web-based system will easily be able to make themselves appear to come from a UK IP address.

Sadly no-one seems to want to answer the question here on on the official forums. Must be one of those awkward ones like..... Why was no-one informed of the trojan issue when it was discovered last week?

IMO The longer they leave answers, the more it makes it look like they are trying to come up with some sort of spin. As the questions that have been asked (about times, dates) are very simple.

To be fair there are certain bits of information that they won't be able to give out while a formal investigation involving external parties is ongoing. And this time it most certainly is.
They may well be hiding behind this to a degree. There are questions which they could answer and haven't. Concerns that were raised before this incident that they could have addressed and didn't. And given previous experience are likely to not be as open and honest abut things as they could be unless they are forced to.

I agree some answers can wait, but what people want to know are the dates (times) of events.
They can come up with other answers later.

Here's a rough timeline of events from the ever informative rsharma.
As I replied in that thread..Nwthat there is a formal investigation though, I fear that information such as dates, times, etc are exactly the sort of information that we won't hear about as it's considered too sensitive.

It's a very simple and blunt way of trying to make things a bit better by making it "more work" to anyone to abuse if there is an issue with the portal. This might encourage some people to try some other site instead. I wouldn't criticise them for doing it.. I'm sure they don't think this fixes anything
