problem with thisisspam

[link to this post]

For ages now I have been forwarding unmarked spam to the [email protected] address in order to train the spam filter so that it can be marked as [SPAM]. Over the last few days when I have done this the emails have been straight back to me as if I had forwarded them on to myself - which I supose technically I had. Is this now normal? Does this mean that the spam filter training is switched off? What do I do now with unmarked spam emails?

Thanks in anticipation.

The address that I have been forwarding spam to for PlusNet is [email protected]. The address that you are using certainly looks to go to your catch all if you do not have a mail-box named thisisspam. If you have only just had your catch all turned on then that would account for why you are seeing the mails not when perhaps before they were being black holed.

The address you should be forwarding these on to is [email protected], preferably as inline messages not attachments.

The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).

I wish you would stop using the word 'inline' which many people will have no idea what you are talking about! What you need to do is forward the emails with the headers included. Normal forwarding will not include the header, you have to copy/paste the header into the forwarded email before sending.

@RobAllen,

The address you are using is from the old spam system which was replaced by dspam quite a while ago - did you not get the memo <g> - and that email address was removed and thus is now treated as one of your own mailboxes so gets delivered to your default one.

The following link explains what to do now - see section 5

Thank you - very useful advice. You're right I didn't "get the memo" - however the thisisspam address only started being forwarded to me very recently so I guess the old system wasn't completely decommissioned when the new one was installed.
