where have contacts gone in squirrelmail?

Don't use webmail much myself, but my dad has just found that all his contacts have disappeared since the move to squirrelmail - are they still accessible somehow?

Copying address book entries from the old system to Sqirrelmail is planned for the coming week. There is discussion on whether users should be given an option to opt in or opt out of this, obviously the opposite being the default.

Maybe there won't be quite as many daft old addresses lying around in the database now. Unless they're lying around in the bits of the database where those addresses which were not in customers individual addressbooks/contacts were when the leak occurred..... Have PlusNet cleaned out those too?

One day Plusnet will work that way by design, saving customers the need to tell the service provider how to provide the service. A good move, but one that should have been the case from day one.

Personally I like a supplier that listens to its users and exes. Not many ISPs do.. Most are faceless and unaccountable.

I said it was a good move, but the fact remains that given Plusnet highlighted old imports of data as being part of the issue, doing it again by default seems utterly stupid and it really shouldn't take customers to point this out.

It should have been the case from day one... i agree.

unfortunately the bulk of customers at that time were screaming out for their contacts back which drove the decision the other albeit incorrect way IMO.

If customers screamed for PLusNet to jump off a bridge would they? No.
There are plenty of times that PlusNet listen to customers and plenty of times they don't. They also have a track record of not thinking things through.

PlusNet didn't alert customers that they hadn't imported contacts, customers found it out. It was suggested at the time that it would be a bad idea to mass-import all of the contacts and that an opt-in or some other mechanism should be offered.

I agree that it's great that they respond to customers and act on feedback. But they shouldn't depend on it, sometimes the flip-=flopping gives the impression, rightly or wrongly, that they really don't think some decisions through.
