Stuck Profile?

[link to this post]

Any reps in that can help an pensioner? My Dad appears to have a stuck profile, as his sync is 7200k, but the Plusnet profile shows 1Mb as does the BT speedtest.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7232 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 921 kbps

He was getting >5Mb on speedtests earlier this week and now this.

Downstream 4,030.7 Kbps ( = 3.9 Mbps )
Upstream 374.0 Kbps ( = 0.4 Mbps )
(Speedtests performed on a good day with a trailing wind and in the days when decent speeds were possible.)

His router must have resynced at a lower rate recently and BT will then drop the profile within 75 mins of that happening and it stays that way even if you sync higher again. It will now take 3 -> 5 days staying at the same or higher sync rate for BT to catch up again with the profile. There is nothing PN can do to speed this up, its how the (flawed) BT system works I'm afraid.

Surely it's worth checking, I seem to remember that when this happens, sometimes it's BT's BRAS getting their knickers in a twist and sometimes it was PlusNet's profiles. So manually checking and nudging things could in some instances help. Maybe the issues on PlusNet's side have been fixed now though.

I had my profile drop to 1Mb but I was on 2Mb IP Stream. One quick phone call sorted out the problem in minutes.

I think Peter is correct in his suggestion, as BT are also showing a lower profile then there is nothing that PN can do unless it is now more easily possible to get BT to up there end?

Good point

I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done to prod things along, probably just a case of having to sit and wait for a few days for it to rectify itself.

Not much we can do unfortunately. This part of the process is entirely automated by BT, so long as the sync speed increases and stays higher for 3-5 days then BT will automatically increase the IP profile.

Hi there,

I'd be more than happy to run some checks on the line to get an estimation as to when the speeds would pick up again, but I'd need a username or ticket number first.

Sorry for the delay, I'm without t'internet due to moving house and I've been too busy worrying about the Chesterfield flooding to check up on my dad.

It looks like he had a really bad sync last week which dropped him down to a low BRAS profile, but he says things are back to normal now.

Downstream 4,030.7 Kbps ( = 3.9 Mbps )
Upstream 374.0 Kbps ( = 0.4 Mbps )
(Speedtests performed on a good day with a trailing wind and in the days when decent speeds were possible.)
