LCP is allowed to come up

I have been getting alot of this since the 23rd.

Any ideas what this could be?

Line stats are

What hardware are you using?

It looks as if the communication layer between your router and the exchange is having issues. Have you double checked your routers settings? Particularly ensure that the multiplexing method is set to VC (not LLC), the VPI is 0 and VCI is 38 and the idle timeout is set to 0.

using a Netgear DG834G on the latest firmware version.

LCP is LCP Control Protocol. Is your connection working at all?

It just looks like your router is resyncing randomly. Have you tried rebooting it?

Or more accurately Link Control Protocol :P

Yes its working fine at the minute, It seems to do this overnight.

Will try a reboot and see how it goes tonight.

The final line of the log shows CHAP authentication success, so I'd assume the router is finally connecting, it's just experiencing disconnects and problems reconnecting.

Looks as if a few of these router's have had similar problems, sometimes due to overheating or just being borked. Not saying that's what's happened here.. it could equally be line quality problems as the noise margin is pretty close to the wire. With the variations most of us see over the day, it cold just be that when a drop occurs, this router is having particular trouble reconnecting.

I've experienced this too on a couple of occasions. I use a Belkin G+ MIMO Modem Router (F5D9630-4). On both occasions the noise margin had dropped below 5db. Restarting the router fixed the problem at the expense of a lower sync to restore noise margin to 6db. Didn't have to change any connection settings.

Just to clarify, the router probably isn't resyncing - as Netgears now log loss of sync. Example taken from a DG834:

If on my netgear I drop PPP (from my ISP's control panel) then I get the LCP messages. I also get this if my ISP does load balancing (as of course, this is just dropping PPP!). Also both my friends and my DSL connection, different ISP's, same exchange went offline for about 30 mins the other morning, and both our routers logged the LCP messages as shown in the OP. Another line on the same exchange did not - and both routers did not drop sync during this time.

It depends on the model and the firmware revision. My old DG834G with Rev3 firmware logs sync loss but my Sky DG834GT (running Sky firmware) doesn't. It only logs the LCP down and a quick check in the router interface shows the sync is being lost as well.
