Hi

Can send to hotmail from eg gmail, but not plusnet
I get: -

Can you PM me the full headers of the bounce? I'll get this flagged to our networks guys to see what's going on.

The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).

Don't know if its is of any relevance but Service Status emails stopped arriving at my hotmail address sometime in late January so signed up with my gmail account after getting errors trying to re-sign up with the hotmail address or unsubscribe.

I did send an email to status (at) servicestatus.plus.com pointing this out but never had any reply. I did get a batch of service status emails in early July, which suggests the address was still subscribed, but nothing since then.

I can PM you my hotmail address if that is any use to you (AFAIK it may still be getting emails that never arrive sent to it).

Service Status posted here. Our network engineers are looking into this. I've seen murmurings elsewhere of problems sending messages to AT&T, Comcast & Yahoo! too (although I think the latter two are OK now).

Hello

What is the cause of this problem, I have an address on ATTGLOBAL.NET and Wannado/Freeserve users often cannot send mail to the ATTGLOBAL address - is it a fault on the sending system or a perversity on ATTGLOBAL.

I do receive mail from Plusnet on the ATTGLOBAL address (Or I think I do <g>)

PS Not asking you to solve the problem on other ISPs just asking for a clue

Thanks

Perhaps it should be fixed Bob, but it isn't yet.

What makes you say that John? DRW has said that he doesn't have any problems sending from Plusnet to AT&T.

@DRW, this particular issue arose after one of our accounts got compromised by a spammer. They used the SMTP auth feature of the account to send in excess of 3 million spam emails over a single weekend before we realised and were able to stop it

When things like this happen, our servers can end up on the blacklists that some providers use to reject email.

As to whose fault it is, I suppose it's a bit of both really. The sender could increase the aggressiveness of their outbound spam filtering mechanisms but they'd have to be careful not to inconvenience their customers. The recipient on the other hand could reduce the aggressiveness of their inbound spam filtering but this could put their platform at risk.

Hi Bob,
I apologise.
At 0920hrs this morning I sent a message to one of my Hotmail accounts and at 0921hrs I got a Delivery Status Notification (Failure). So it didn't appear to be fixed then. In all fairness I have not had the chance to re-try until now and have just found that at 1404hrs it appears to be OK.
