Considering Option1 for Parents - convince me!

Really need to put my parents line onto broadband so the phone line isn't tied up and it should actually be cheaper than their dialup deal....

The line will only be used for email and light browsing. Only major download will be a massive initial windows update etc.

Anyway on that basis the cheapest plusnet option looks pretty good at �11pm. The setup costs appear free if you stay for 12months and the exit charge seems to match the setup+router.

So convince me if I am right or wrong. I cannot see anything cheaper from a sane provider other than O2std-customer which they may not have the mobile for. Also has the plusnet email been more reliable/professional lately I recall they went through a rather bad patch.

I have referred three users - my daughter and two silver surfers and they have been delighted with the service.

Microsoft/ AVG updates and Driver downloads are no problem. They use about half of the 2GB allowance each month.

Now, if your parents start using the BBC Iplayer or discover p2p file sharing, they could exceed their usage. A goof feature of PlusNet is that you can set a maximum spend ( say � 11-50) in which case you would get an extra GB before you got your speed clamped to 128Kbps which is twice the Dial-up speed anyway.

I can recommend Option 1 for them and if you want to use me as your referrer, I would not complain.

Where do you get the �11pm figure from? BBYW Option 1 is �9.75pm. And for low usage this offer is difficult to beat in my opinion.

If the large downloads are done between midnight and 8am there is no charge.

Well that's even better then. I used the thinkbroadband ISP search with the lite 3gb option and vat included. Either its included the extra charge for the 3rd gigabyte or some vat or something. Or its just wrong. Anyway at 9.75 (if its vat incl) then its even better.

Its really only going to be used by other family members when they are looking after my mother. So the lite profile should be good for everything but the huge updates their machine needs (since I got fed up taking cd full of updates up there!).
