PING problem

Is anyone else having a problem with pinging web sites such as www.bbc.co.uk. www.tiscali.co.uk ?

I have been having for the past few days what is best described as a sluggish web browsing experience. Speed checks reveal 5 to 6 Mb/s so next suspect was latency and hence me trying a few pings.

I have tried different gateways with me now on pte-ag1 but the results are the same with a 30 to 73% loss for a typical www.bbc.co.uk ping as can seen below.

No problems here, apart from Tiscali (but that could just be routers that don't respond to pings). Also ran a tracert to www.jolt.co.uk for comparison.

Thanks Paulby for your trouble, it must just be a little glitch somewhere. Out of interest do you have interleaving turned off to get such low ping times ?

A significant factor in ping times (as well as interleaving status) is how far you are from London.

Well that has answered another question as I am about 470 miles away. :-(

I have interleaving turned off and am in Central Scotland (so quite a way from London!)

We are near Dundee so perhaps turning interleaving off may speed up general web browsing against a small loss in overall down load speed. The BT line profile is 7150 and connection is generally rock solid.
