Contact phone numbers

[link to this post]

What's happened to Plusnet's policy of using geographic phone numbers? Since the BT takeover Plusnet has been proud of the fact you can phone them on 0114 numbers (bundled in most phone packages) as well as on 0845 numbers. Now the 0114 numbers have vanished from the home page and many others. Can still find the 0114 numbers on the support page.

Could this be related to the new BT policy of including 0845 numbers free in its calling packages? Anyone else has to pay for phoning them and it's up to 30p/minute if you have to phone from a mobile.

Plusnet is still better than many ISPs who give no alternative to various 08xx numbers and sometimes even use 09xx numbers. Time for a plug for:

http://www.saynoto0870.com/

where you can find decent alternatives to 08xx numbers.

Good point, but it is worse than that! See the BT web page:-

"free calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers^ (free at the weekends with the Unlimited Weekend Plan; during the evening and weekends with the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan and anytime with the Unlimited Anytime Plan)."

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Standard.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

They still do have 0114 geographic numbers.

They're listed on the Help and Support page (near the foot - you may need to scroll down).

From that page:
If you want to speak to our support team, you can call us on:
Customer Support: 0845 140 0200 or 0114 296 5198
Broadband Faults: 0845 140 0080 or 0114 296 5188

Missed that!

I think it's more to do with this than any conspiracy theory about BT dropping the charge for 0845 etc.

They're apparently looking into obtaining an 03 number to replace the 0114 numbers. 03 numbers are treated as 01 and 02 on calls packages.

From the article:
However, this does present one immediate disadvantage. The Call Manager platform will only allow non-geographic telephone numbers which would mean that we would be unable to keep our 01142 telephone numbers. We are however, looking at implementing non geographic 03xx telephone numbers, which cost the same as calling a geographic on.
