Re: Request Timed Out

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

This now seems to be a regular occurance accessing many popular sites. To avoid being criticised for jumping to conclusions I need some simple answers.

I assume rightly or wrongly that these time outs are a funtion of internet overloading generally and we just have to learn to live with them. Or is there a way of making a quicker connection? There is no point in having the fastest connection in the World if the damned thing times out all the time!

Maybe the answer is a VPN directly to my stockbroker! Having said that the Stocktrade connection is useless with IE7 but fine with Firefox......

I think it is time to go online and book a holiday!

It could just be that these sites refuse to respond to a ping or tracert. Some sites do that.

However both www.stocktradebroking.co.uk & www.iii.co.uk can be reached on the Web using a Web Browser (IE7), whilst they timeout on a ping or tracert.

Agreed, I can't get to web-60.iii.co.uk on the Web tho'.

What exactly happens when you visit web-60.iii.co.uk?

I have just tested this from a Plusnet and third part connection, and both resulted in a looping redirect.

ie, I got a connection, but the website kept providing a redirect to itself over and over. Firefox aborted as such.

That site works perfectly well on Sky Max and Firefox 3.0.10
