3.7Mbit sync, 135Kbit profile, how long to recover?

[link to this post]

Title says it all really. Parents are on PlusNet, and I found this while using their connection. The sync was around 224Kbit, and after a reset it jumped back to 4096. It's since dropped back to 3.7Mbit, and that seems to be about the norm for their line. It's been 24 hours now, but the profile is still stuck at 135Kbit. My understanding of BT's DLM was that a large jump in sync would see a quicker recovery, and indeed I experienced that myself on a number of occasions when I was on a BT product.

Is it worth contacting PlusNet about this, or am I just going to get fobbed off with "wait 5 days"?

The profile should increase within 24 hours for that sort of increase. However I wonder of a high one followed by a slightly lower one has confused the issue.

I think it is worth giving it another day to see if the automatic change takes effect.

Have you checked with them the profile as shown by the BT speed test still shows 135kbps?

Plusnet is one of the two ISPs I know of who hold and use a copy of the BT IP Profile at their Radius servers, and the system for updating that often fails.

So it is possible the BT one has updated but the Plusnet one is stuck.

You could post here http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/board,4.0.... maybe a rep will pick it up, as it's Friday rather than wait over the weekend

Well it's been 36 hours at a sync at least 3Mbit higher than the initial one, and a BT speed test just now still shows a 135Kbit profile.

Incidentally even that pathetic profile isn't being fully used, the tests I've done have shown a transfer rate of 30-50kbit/s, officially in dial-up territory. A further test using the bt_test_user login showed a transfer rate of 86Kbit.

Time for a call to PlusNet I think.

Well this finally resolved itself, back to a 3Mbit profile. It certainly makes me appreciate being on LLU on my home connection.
