Plusnet Unlimited, is it?

[link to this post]

Having problems with Entanets ISPC and ALT (as are a lot of Enta customers).

I'm looking at adding an extra line and getting Plusnet Unlimited for the kids gaming, I have an Autistic 19yr old who lives in World of Warcraft and a 21yr old who works in a bar so uses the net and his PS3 at odd hours and a 15yr old who is either on MSN, Facebook or watching streaming Anime media smile I'm pretty much housebopund disabled so watch 3 or 4 movies online per week and download large Photoshop files and Microsoft Technet files.

Not to happy about the 12 month tie in as I've been used to a 30day contract for the last 2 years but the only thing that I would like confirmed is that when it says Usenet is unthrotled and unlimited at line speed from 00:00 to 12:00 that's what it is, we have been known to use up to 300Gb in a bad month (normal is 100 to 150Gb) but I will be using my current line with Vivaciti for around 75 to100Gb of that.

Me again, as my mum's house is on plusnet so I know a bit about it.

They've dropped the 12/18 month contracts EXCEPT that if you leave before 12 months you have to payback any of the deferred setup costs. eg. setup, router, etc. That could add up on a new line as it would be the full BT broadband setup charge and you'd need a router on the line anyway. Previously the contract terms were IIRC "pay all monthly payments due" which is worse near the beginning and better near the end.

In your circumstances the new rules may not be a bad deal since in effect its an interest free loan for 12 months and then they eat the cost.

You would need to pay to have the new BT line setup. I think BT Retail will now do that for free IF you sign up for a year's rental. There was also a new line deal with the post office I think, cheaper than a paid BT installation. I believe plusnet can order lines too (for their line rental) but haven't seen a price lately.

Thought I'd add I found this bit on the usergroup website all about simultaneous provides. I've also seen some threads which suggest that plusnet do the phone BT first, phone plusnet second method. Its vital to tell BT its a simultaneous order FROM your FIRST words and to go back and check later!!! Then you order from plusnet passing across the special reference number from the BT order.

Good luck with this. I hope it works out.

Thanks Kevin smile

Just had a reply from Plusnet online, £49.99 for a new line and £10.95pm for basic rental, looked on BT's site and it came out at £122 + £11.50 rental!!. I've emailed Plusnet back to make sure the price is for a completely seperate new line just to be safe smile

Hi,

The price is correct, it's a special offer we're running for the next few weeks (£49.99 for a new line install).

You won't get too many takers when the only mention about new lines is a referral to contact sales. You used to promote the phone service more.

On that note do you have any current plans to make the phone package available outside your broadband customers?

Damn good find Jeff. Do make sure that you know if you have to make a certain number of calls to keep the offer. And if you only used the line for broadband you'd need to remember to make those calls.

Eg. The BT free offer needs 10 calls a month (or something) and that stops you taking a BT line and then moving your calls off to the WCLI or WLR providers.

Just tried to order a new line online and the rep had no idea, told me I'd have to get BT to install one !!! frown

Will try ringing and see if it's any better frown

Edit at 09:55

Result! smile

Not only was getting the new line no problem (done within 9 days!) I also got 3 months free broadband and the reduced price of £15.99pm for Unlimited, line rental at £10.95 not much cheaper than BT but no 18 month contract and includes 300 free International mins pm so I can phone my friends in Florida for free smile

Anyone know if you can specify where the master socket is fitted?, current one is downstairs in the hallway with no mains for the router near so ideally I'd like it upstairs in my bedroom or my sons room.

Hi again Jeff smile

Glad to hear you got things sorted.

If you're needing a complete new install the engineer should be quite happy to put the master socket wherever you like.

Re the other question, it's not currently possible to have the phone on it's own from scratch on Plusnet, though it is on Madasafish.

That's impressive as the Market 3 price would not normally apply on your exchange, with no LLU at all. Either its a special deal or a mistake. Keep an eye on the billing.
