Problems moving website from fp to www webspace

[link to this post]

Hi folks,
I currently have my website hosted at http://fp.username.plus.com/xyz and I would like upload my site to http://www.username.plus.com/xyz, due to the recent message about the discontinuation of FrontPage support.

I'm using FrontPage 2003 and have so far not been able to find the right combination of settings in order for me to do this.

Presuming that I need to now choose 'FTP' rather than 'Frontpage' as the Remote Server Type, I need the 'remote website location' and 'FTP directory' details.

I've found the following settings from the website section on the member's centre, but I'm confused about what goes where :

FTP server: ftp.plus.net
Username: ***********
Password: Your account password
Sub-directory: htdocs (upload files to this folder)

I have a copy of my website on my PC, so that's not an issue.

Can anyone help ?

I'm aware that I have the option to set up a redirection of my fp to my www webspace, but I figured I might as well sort it out properly now to avoid any future problems. I also do intend on moving to something more current than FP, but in the meantime I just want to be able to update my site !

Thanks.

Hi,

Have you seen the article the Bob wrote on how to do this? You can find it here if not and it should help.

No - I hadn't come across that yet and yes, it helps a lot - thanks !

Out of interest, can anyone recommend a good alternative to FrontPage ?

My site is fairly simple at the moment and I've had to use Dreamweaver in the past to add Flash content to individual pages, as I couldn't do that in FP.

I didn't find early versions of Dreamweaver that user-friendly though, to an amateur website designer like myself.

Are later versions any easier to use, or (better still) are there any good free or low cost WYSIWYG website editors out there ?

I'm very noobie re web site design and have despaired in the past of finding anything easy and cheap.

I recently discovered NetObjects Fusion Essentials which is free and brilliant. That's what my web site in my sig is built with and I haven't tried 90% of what it can do.

Suits me at the moment but for Flash and suchlike I think you would need the full Fusion 11.

May be worth a play with the freebie to see if it's worth buying the full one. I reckon I will be doing so soon.

PC Pro has version of NetObjects Fusion on its cover disk from time to time. I too would like an easy to use web creation package!

Maybe we should move this thread to the web design section?

My first attempts at using a WYSIWYG editor was via an early version of CoffeeCup HTML Editor. I found it very intuitive and easy to use and I had a working, compliant and albeit fairly simple, multi page site up within an hour.
I don't know what it's like now or how stripped down the free HTML editor is but you can find it here.

Not supported properly any more. I really did find Fusion Essentials (which I only discovered recently) by far the best I have tried over the last couple of years, including CoffeeCup - though that wasn't bad.
