Speed Query

[link to this post]

My line was recently transferred to the 21CN. I recently had some connections issues which were repaired very quickly by PlusNet.

My router is showing

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5376 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 8.5 db 24.0 db

However when i do a speedtest i get:

Should i be getting faster speeds or is it an expected value?
Thanks.

Conor

Your maximum line connection speed using an ADSL (up to 8Mbps) service is: 5376Kbps

If using a BT Wholesale Max product, then your expected IP Profile (sometimes called BRAS Data Rate) will be. 4.5Mbps

If your service provider uses ADSL2+ the maximum line speed likely is: 7683Kbps

With ADSL2+ the maximum IP throughput (result from a speedtest) is likely to be around: 6799Kbps

The range of ADSL speeds expected at this attenuation are 4000Kbps to 5510Kbps

Your ADSL2+ speeds are likely to be in the range 5300Kbps to 8300Kbps.

How long since you connected, and can you remember about what time of day? That noise margin is high which may explain the low speed for the attenuation.

Try a re-sync, but not after 3:30pm (at this time of year).

Have a read about Noise Margins and BT IP Profiles on my website. Especially the bottom of the noise margin page.
