Plusnet vs BT

[link to this post]

I've been deciding between Plusnet and BT for a friend. As they are a low user they will either be going for BT Broadband Option 1 or Plusnet Value. BT works out 99p a month cheaper when BT's anytime calls are factored in with a package.

However, I will be recommending Plusnet over BT because:

1) they offer a usage monitor in the control panel
2) they offer the ability to set a spending limit above the included usage

So, whilst I know BT own Plusnet, I thought I'd give Plusnet a bit of praise where it's due, and a slap on the wrist for BT for not offering the same features as its smaller subsidiary.

Unlike BT no long contracts with Plusnet any more just ten days notice, although there are certain deferred charges to be paid if you leave within the first twelve months.

Edit >>> the ten days notice period is for residential customers

Yes, that's also something in Plusnet's favour.

Taken from the Community Support forum this may be worth a read if you haven't seen it before.

I nearly forgot it is discussed on this forum too grin

Plusnet would normally be better than BT due to having a better customer services / support team than BT's support team who just read scripts and deliver a very poor service. There are other out there who may be more suitable depending on what you want and how much you are willing to pay.

Plusnet's support ain't great at the moment because they've been advertising heavily, getting loads of new users and their support department can't cope with the volume of faults being generated.

Even that is preferable to BT's approach, which is to let you go over your allowance, pay £1 per GB, not give you any control panel to monitor your excess usage and give you no tool to cap your expenditure.

That being said, I'm not by any means suggesting Plusnet is perfect, merely saying that their systems for monitoring and capping excess usage put BT to shame.

To be honest I left a while ago so have not experienced how good the support is currently. I do remember people had concerns about support being moved to another country at about the time I left.
