A village with its own telephone exchange - as those stats tell me that you are practically next to it

I do appear to be quite lucky in the location, though the house is not that close to the exchange for me to sit on it! I think it's maybe 1/4 mile or so|?

Anyway things seem to be fine as far as installation and connection etc. however, I do have a couple of questions:

1. There is a soft beep that appears to be coming from the router about once every two minutes. Sounds like a little bird. Can this be? and if so can I stop it?

2. Think this one is solved.

Yes, putting the budgie cage on top of it can cause over-heating of both the router and the bird.

Well, I do feel like a Great Tit. Buried in a box of clothes nearby was an old smoke detector with a battery going flat. Anyway, changing the subject quickly, all seems to be ok, here are my stats with those high SN margins ! Maybe the line is temperamental??

You are on interleaved which has a rate limit of 7616kbps and hence a high noise margin is good and not a problem

No you are just very close to the exchange/short line as shown by the downstream attenuation of 12dB, and as a result the downstream noise margin figure actually increases showing you have some margin spare when the sync rate is 7616Kbps.

What the high SN margin does tell you is that you could be syncing a lot higher on ADSL2+
