Thinking of moving to PlusNet Extra package

[link to this post]

Is anyone here also on that package?
How do you find it?
I've never had a monthly cap before so it's going to be a bit of a new experience for me

Hi...

Looks like a good package on their website, you'll need to live in one of their "low cost" areas, meaning within the radius of a ADSL2+ exchange and with other LLU operators on site. 60GB is enough for most families, if for example you watch something on the iPlayer in HD this would consume 1.5GB, so bear that in mind if you switch to a package with a hardline cap.

As this is a new package people won't have a lot of experience, as yet.

Do you know what your monthly usage has been in the past?

Have you checked your exchange using samknows as the best price is for Market 3 exchange.

Wait, do I need a LLU exchange to get the Extra package then? I put my postcode and phone number into there availability checker and it said it was available but as far as I was aware, my exchange hasn't been unbundled yet

You don't need an LLU enabled exchange - we don't resell any LLU services. It's just that on exchanges where there are 3 or more LLU providers offering services we're able to offer ours at a reduced price.

What makes that possible? I don't see how the presence of equipment from other providers can affect the price of your service when you only use BT wholesale capacity.

Ofcom enforce regulations on BT where they are a monopoly provider. However, those regulations are relaxed where it is a "market 3" exchange - meaning BT have a level of competition from LLU ISPs. Where this is the case BT are allowed to sell their wholesale products at a lower cost and Plusnet choose to pass this on to their customers.

It's part of Ofcom's rules to encourage competition, there's some info on our website here.
