Problems since 23rd Augest - Starting to get peeved

[link to this post]

I'll try to keep it brief.

I joined Plus Net a couple of months ago. At the point to sign up my estimated speed was 4mb (which I'd had with my previous supplier) but after the first week or so has only managed to attain around 2.5mb.

Then the stability went through the floor. I swapped out my Billion router for a Netgear but this didn't help. Plus Net sent a Thomson router which helped for a day or so then the stability started fluctuating. I replaced the ADSL filter and this sorted the stability but my speeds reduced further.

Now, some weeks on (and now connected directly to the master socket) I'm only getting 2.1/2.2 mb if I'm lucky. Yesterday evening my wife and I were both surfing at the same time and the lag was obvious to say the least.

For information, Sam Knows suggested that I'm circa 2km from my exchange.

I have a running ticket open with Plus Net but having spoken to a CS agent this morning, they don't seem to be too bothered about getting this, now long standing issue, fixed any time soon. The kids are back to school and have homework that needs research. My wife is job hunting and and I'm on a lucky poker run at the moment. As a family, we really could use a working, reasonably fast broadband connection.

What would you do? Personally, I'm tempted to contact OFCOM to see what they would suggest. I'd be keen to know your thoughts though.

Thanks for your time

Why did you move to Plusnet and from which ISP?

Please see if you can find and post your line stats. See here for help.

Probably the same problem as a lot are having of the BT Wholesale 21CN system falling over. The stats will tell us.

What exchange are you on?

My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - O2 Standard.

Hi Robert,

I moved from Newnet to Plusnet (cost was a factor if I'm honest).

I'll post line stats when I get home tonight.

I'm on the Havant exchange.

Please let me know if you'd like any further info.

Thanks for the PM. Your connection is relatively stable - 7 drops in 10 days, 2 of those being PPP drops when your profile was changed. Are you seeing any actual breaks in connection at a greater frequency than this? If so, are you exclusively using wireless? You may see some benefit from changing the channel or switching to ethernet, at least for testing.

Your sync speed went up by about a meg when you removed the iplate, would you now be able to plug directly into the test socket so that we can retest?

Your profile has moved up to 3,000kbps which you have only attained once before. However, this is still a touch lower than your estimate.

Whoops, just read your update on the ticket and I see that you are actually in the test socket at the moment.

The best way for us to progress is for you to now monitor the line to see if there are any issues with stability as previously reported.

The iPlate was removed on Saturday so we've been running without it for a couple of days now. The speed has continued falling over this time.

We are seeing this on both wired and wireless boxes using Windows XP, Linux Mint and SuSe 11.3.

After last nights lagging performance I tested the connection early to remove any possible 'evening traffic' problems.

Your thoughts?
