Help needed with drop out last 2 days

[link to this post]

Hi

Need some advice here. last 3 nights i have been disconnected. I am sitting next to the telephone exchange and i normally have a connection speed of 17614

previous stats before fault were
connection speed 17614 down, 445 up
line atten 21 down, 5 up
noise 6 down, 24 up

Today my stats when i check them are 3931 connection down, 444 up
line atten 23db down, 5.5 up
noise 0 down, 13 up

Can someone advise me here, is this a problem at my local exchange or at plusnet, as i am constantly getting disconnected and getting bursts of 3 mins max and then disconnected, although it has been synced at 17614 all year.

I have tried 2 different routers with the same results on both.

Any help on this would be great
Thanks.

Have you tried the test socket behind the lower removable part of the master socket with nothing else connected to it

Yes i am wired straight into the master socket for test and the results are the same. It has been great all year but i notice my noise figure has gone down to Zero, just basically want to know is it at my telephone exchange or plusnet. Nothing changed or new at my end, just happened last 3 days.

It's not Plusnet and is probably your line or something gone wrong with the line card.
If it is the same in the test socket http://www.holtlane.plus.com/images/master%20socket.jpg with nothing else connected you will need to report a speed fault to Plusnet using the ticket system

Thanks for reporting the fault, the automated tests showed a failure in the exchange but this needs to have a full manual test before being reported to BT. Your ticket will be updated as soon as this is complete and you should receive a call from the Faults Team to let you know whether or not the same test failure was found and therefore the expected timeframe for resolution.

Your target SNR margin can be 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15dB. I'd recommending having a look what it's set to after the fault is fixed because DLM may have pushed it too high. We can always fix this for you if it is the case.

well thats me lost

i would have thought being next door to the exchange would give me high snr at least 6
and you think it may be set to high
its been perfectly synced for a year now at 17614 with no disconections

thanks anyway

The fault may have pushed it higher than normal. This is normally reset after an SFI visit, but an SFI visit may not be necessary in your case - an exchange engineer might be sent out instead.

6dB would be fine on a short line, maybe even 3dB. Please paste in your router stats after the fault is fixed and we can take it from there.

Hi

Had BT here today and then did tests on the line and he says it checks out ok, but when he ran a line check it says failure but he said that is a software fault. He says he will return tomorrow and check it again, but it appears the line is ok.

He told me to contact plusnet.

It looks like i am going to go around in a big loop here as i was told the fault was between the exchange and the property and bt come out saying the line to my exchange is ok.

the crackling seems to have stopped on the line now but the snr on my router still only says 2.3db.

It has been solidly synched for the last year at 17614 without any drop outs and now it is having trouble keeping a connection.

any ideas would be appreciated
