Both models as supplied by BT are locked down against the user and no stats are available to the user.
If this is an issue for you I suggest you do a search on google you will find considerable details on various attempts and successes at unlocking these modems to access the connection data.

The Huawei is very easy to unlock - see http://huaweihg612hacking.wordpress.com/

Cheers everyone for just the right info I need.

The BT modem remains their property - so it is in effect on loan to you as part of the FTTC service.
It has one inactive port Lan2 and one active port Lan1 for connecting to the WAN port on the plusnet supplied router

It will either be a Huawei HG612 Model 3B (3B being the latest revision)
or a ECI B-FOCuS V-2FUb/r Rev.B (/r being the latest version and /i being the earlier version).

Both models as supplied by BT are locked down against the user and no stats are available to the user.

The Huawei is a Broadcom chipset, the ECI a Lantiq.

Detailed line stats are ALWAYS a good thing - information is power smile

Now, onto eBay to see how much unlocked boxes are smile or better still google is my friend to find out how to "jail break" these suckers LOL

You've been given the link to the site with the HG612 unlock details provided by the person who did the HG612 hack tongue. Anything else will either send you there or be dodgy.

The ECI is also covered there, or used to be. There are two ways for that, neither to be experimented with unless you have a spare.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.2/15.2Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Apologies if this question is in the wrong part of the forum.. However, it still applicable to my PN FTTC home install.

Has anyone got any Idea's on a decent Cat5e and Cat6 cable supplier of quality (Shielded) Ethernet Cables for a wired Home network. Based on a home Fibre setup ?

I would also like some info on good Ethernet end-connectors and if there are any differences between the various types of Ethernet connectors (which are the best quality)

Any suggestions/ideas/info should be based upon consideration about the type of supplied BT Openreach Modem (Huawei HG612 or ECI models)

Which Ethernet cables are best suited for each device, if, there are indeed, any preferred types of Ethernet cabling for either of those devices?

Note: I maybe doing multiple Ethernet runs of approximately 25m
