Re: ECI to HG612 modem best swap method

[re: RobertoS] [link to this post]

@oddball I read a really good article/forum thread over on Kitz about REIN. I cant quite find the exact thread but its there somewhere.. Best you check it out yourself but in a nutshell:

If you got an AM/FM hand held radio tune it into AM 612Khz Freq. then go around the place looking for sources of REIN. Power down EVERYTHING on your main power box besides the main ring for the power sockets which you have your PC system running off. Then go on a walk around your house and see if you hear any changes to the baseline background noise if you get no luck detecting REIN on that 612Khz freq. then go up to the next harmonic frequency 612khz 1 1/2 and up again.. Or something to that effect.. Best you read up on kitz for exact methods.

@RobertoS As always, thanks for your no messing simple steps to swapping HG612 for ECI..

FYI, ECI modems have no power off button/switch, well, at least not my my model B-F0CuS Sub v-2FUb/r Rev B

You said PN cannot detect which modem I am using but what about the TR-069 CPE WAN Management Protocol or does TR69 only apply to the Router (Technicolor TG582n)

Lastly, what about the original PN T&C will changing to another CPE. Will swapping over my ECI to my HG612 affect my levels of technical support or maybe even breach my ToS, etc.. ?
I mean off the top of your head. I suppose I could go digging through the T&C documentation if I need to just thought you (or others) may know about this kind of thing.

Cheers.

All the unlocking does is change the firewall level on the modem from "BT" to "Standard". The modem is kosher.

It applies just to the router. It is the automated way of setting up the PPP session with your ISP, (PlusNet in this case). Nor do they mind if you use a different router -there is no compulsion to use the Plusnet one. Though they only guarantee help on PN-supplied routers.

Not in any way whatsoever. What might do, though I'm not aware of it ever having happened, would be if you replaced both the Openreach modem and whatever "cable" router you choose with a combined modem/router, as none are yet approved by Openreach for FTTC connection.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 51.8/16.8Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Actually the modem uses TR069 as you can see with an unlocked modem.

Nope. Only when used as a modem/router smile. That isn't being suggested.

Ah, maybe mine has a PTM entry with a Connection name of 1.301 and Service_List of TR069_Internet for BT Wifi with Fon.

Interesting smile. Mine doesn't have that on any of the directly viewable pages - i.e. without downloading the configuration file to inspect.

It does have a TR069 (CWMP) page as well but disabled.

You say no combined modem/routers are officially supported but are there any available anyway? will a Fritzbox do the job ?

Anyone else looked into the combined modem/router solutions??

Thanks
