My fairly slim experience with Plusnet support is pretty positive, even the wait times weren't too terrible. The worst bit is the terrible music you have to endure while waiting. I am afraid that we are unlikely to see support quality up to BE's from any of the equivalent priced ISPs these days.

BE is also my ex isp, though I left well before the Sky days to get FTTC.

Thanks for the help,,Funny sky just rang to offer me free landline for a year. But as I want fibre it probably is still better to go with plusnet with cashback.

I don't want the standard broadband as upload with sky is really low.download is ok.and ive found sky to be poor with customer service when ive asked them about the low upload.

I guess the change should go to plusnet, hopefully no problem as im porting my landline and broadband from different companys,I know BT owns plusnet.

cheers

I was BE and went to BT for fibre in 2012, then moved this summer to Plusnet for a static IP. Very happy so far with plusnet smile

plusnet unlimited fibre - 2 Jun 14 - 470m - 80/20 - Summer/dry sync 55/9.4, Winter/wet sync 52/9.1
15 years broadband (1999 ntl:cable trial) - Asus RT-AC68U with HG612 - BQM - Summer PN speed - Winter PN speed

RobertS

can you tell me how you found out your cabinet is 600m away, assuming that's what you mean in your sig?is there a site to check distance to make a more accurate speed estimate.

Speaking to my neighbor today who is in infinity 2 he said he gets 53meg down and didnt tell me the up.He is next door to me.But putting my number and postcode into the sites I previously mentioned is showing max speed.

Two ways.

The copper route from my cabinet is easily traced, so I paced it out, (something I learned to do fairly accurately as a teenager rather long ago), added in the cabinet link length, rough height of the pole and drop cable length. Came to a bit over 600 yards.

Then the installation engineer's JDSU showed approximately 0.6km.

My line from the cabinet has always been quite good. The e-side which is now irrelevant for the broadband is poor.

I assume next door's estimate is the same as yours? 53Mbps actual from an 80Mbps sync, if that's the estimate, looks to me as if he has a problem. The IP Profile would be 77.4Mbps, being 24Mbps down from that sounds wrong. What are the "impacted" estimates, and what are the ranges on clean and impacted?

If interleaving has kicked in, that does have a minimum impact of 10Mbps or so with 8ms added to latency. Higher levels of interleaving lose more speed and add more latency. But all that should be covered by the ranges.

High Low High Low

FTTC Range A (Clean) 60.1 43.2 16.8 10.7 -- Available
FTTC Range B (Impacted) 51.4 29.4 16.8 7.7 -- Available

IPv4 BQM now activated. The "All red" before is the IPv6 one.

I'm on holiday and obviously the disconnections a few days ago have got me, and put me on a non-IPv6 gateway. I believe it's the bgn series that don't support it.

Hmmm,I wonder if he has got a problem. We have recently just had a new telegraph pole fitted.

I've no idea if his estimates was he same as mine,I just asked him to do a few speed tests for me. I'm not totally knowledgeable and has really no clue.

I've been reading on plusnet regarding a few problems with BNGs, this is beyond me, so I'm not sure if it's something I need to be bothered about or not.I believe it's something to do with ipv6, which is something I don't have with sky. However due to DNS leak I'm sure I only allow ipv4 through my VPN when using it.

As for your question, my impacted estimates are
80-70.5-20-19

Yes, I saw them after I posted. You could put his address in for an estimate if you don't know his phone number smile.

40/20 should get the 40 with no problem of course The 19 upstream will depend. Are you still considering the 78/19? As I said earlier I have it just so I have it!

I can't check my IP Profile at the moment, I expect 54.7Mbps, and on tbb speed test get over 51Mbps down and ~13Mbps up.
