Have they suggested there has been an attack? On both the main site and the community, excluding the forums?

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

Not as far as I'm aware, just picking up on what jelv said, and your comment about backups.

Oliver.

I find it very odd that "maintenance" which takes an extended length of time was started without any prior warning via service status. It must therefore be that something adverse and unexpected occurred and the most likely event of that type is some form of attack.

hardware issues.
database crash

other possible reasons I would put as likely as an attack.

If you look at http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/ you'll see that whatever took this down is associated with what took down the main portal last Thursday as they have the same problem id. I'd be very surprised if there was any common hardware or databases between those two.

I mentioned here about the Library being down, if you click on the direct link it's not even showing a holding page whereas the other community sections are shocked. The Library always has been a bit buggy, so an attack would not surprise me frown
