Re: Big Drop in Speed....is it congestion?

I had the identical problem with PlusNet after my last move, the problem continued for a couple of months with PlusNet insisting it couldn't be congestion but I`m sure it was.

Anyway after PlusNet realised I was not going to give up and let the issue remain they finally switched me over at the exchange and the problems have been gone ever since. I can't say exactly what they did as they would'nt say.

My suspicion is the problem is down to BT, PlusNet is BT`s discount arm and it seems to me that they put PlusNet customers on a degraded service in the hope they will switch to BT and its high prices.

As has been proved today everyone, BT engineer visited was impressed with the whole setup, he was a good guy did the tests from exchange, cabinet, my socket and was happy with the speeds I got.....he updated me to a new faceplate and new filter but did it more as a goodwill gesture as we got on so well.

Performaed a speed test and got this just now:

I've requested they need to investigate as it's getting really challenging to even browse on this connection. More topping up on the mobile broadband SIM.

EE 4G for now, and Plus Net soon...

yeah that single threaded performance is very bad. Even your multi threaded isnt consistent.

If it gets better off peak then its probably congestion.

I wonder where, I've took a glimpse at some of the recent results being posted over at PNF's, might have a look in a min to see if maybe the issue we suffered have maybe got worse?

EDIT: After looking, it is possible that the decline in HTTPx6 may now alos be related to issues at Plusnet

by the way I think the theory that plusnet is been prepped for a merger isnt far off (after some investigation via shareholder questioning).

Well theres been a few things that have reminding me of previous ISP mergers and then other little stories like BT bring customer support back to the Uk reminded me of when the Plusnet chat system was playing up and it was showing BT Branding and then I thought perhaps Plusnet's staff where about to get new positions.

Anyway, best not take this thread off topic.
