Hmmm. Bristol isn't even mentioned anywhere, yet I'm sure I was among those affected - and it's better now.
I switched the router off, and went and did something else for an hour. When I got back, the sites that hadn't been responding at all were back again!

Hmmm. Bristol isn't even mentioned anywhere, yet I'm sure I was among those affected - and it's better now. Failure at a major internet routing centre in London (TeleCity) which affected broadband and business circuits for some parts of the internet. My TBB BQM could see my home connection but I could not ping my home router from work.

Must have been the power failure at the Docklands, pretty much back to normal now.

I recently moved to PlusNet from Idnet and this is the first time for years that I've had issues with accessing the internet. This morning some sites were slow, some were unavailable like the BBC which made using the internet a struggle.
I wondered what negatives I could face after moving from a rock solid ISP and now I've found out. But equally my PlusNet package is cheaper and to be fair I have to take that into account.
The Guardian have a story about it:-

Thanks, yes, I'm aware of what happened - yet surprised there was no official recognition in any of the reports that my area was even affected.
Equally sceptical of the 10% claim - that 1 in 10 connection attempts to the site you wanted to reach might fail. For me, it was more like only 1 in 10 attempts worked. Most of the internet was unreachable. A few sites were OK, or slow, but almost OK.

Equally sceptical of the 10% claim ..... I'm not. My BQM at home shows no issues today at all. Equally, no issues to report at work (in the Midlands) either. I only got to know that there was an internet problem in London via the BBC news which I was reading online. For me it really was a business as normal day. Of course, if I'd been affected I don't think I would have curled up and died. It's technology (something I work with day in day out), and believe me when I say it goes wrong quite often.
Of course, there'll be the usual kick BT and Plusnet rants and should have moved to Zen etc crowd. I feel I get what I pay for from Plusnet. And if it falls over, I get in touch with them to fix it.
What does bother me isn't the fact that it fell over for you but where was the contingency/redundancy plan for when things like this happen. Having everything routing through one building isn't sensible.
