BQM Question

[link to this post]

On 4/6/24 at about 4.45am my BQM suddenly started showing this:My Broadband Ping

Despite rebooting my Plusnet Hub Two the solid red still remains today although there does not appear to be any degradation in my normal 70/18 (80/20) FTTC BB speeds.

Any ideas?

Have you checked that your IPv6 address is still the same? Have you checked the router is still set to allow pings (it is possible it has had a firmware update that might have overridden that setting)?

Plusnet Hub One router will not work with BQM.

Yes Bob Pullen say Plusnet Hub Two is working so I have done that for my parents.

Instruction:

Log into the Hub Manager at http://192.168.1.254, navigate to Advanced > Firewall > Configuration. There's a toggle in there for allowing ICMP/Ping. Enable it and save the changes.

Thanks, ian72. It looks as though my ipv6 address is no longer an option. I have changed to my current ipv4 address and also discovered that incoming pinging of the hubs ip address had become mysteriously disabled within the Plusnet Hub Two Manager. That has now been reactivated and is working OK. However, the firmware is still showing v0.10.00.04201-PN from 23-Jun-2023, so does not appear to have been updated. I don't understand what has happened.

That IPv6 address 2a09:bac1:... belongs to Cloudflare, not Plusnet. Not surprising really, since Plusnet don't do IPv6 yet AKAIK.

Do you have some sort of tunnel set up? If so, that's where you should be investigating.

Unless they've changed their policy recently, with Plusnet you can get a static IPv4 address for a one-time £5 payment, so I'd suggest you do that and configure BQM to that address. That takes third parties out of the equation, and then you're actually measuring just your Plusnet connection.

The PlusNet IPV6 Trial although no longer available seems still to be running.
