Roxio & McAfee

[link to this post]

Does anyone use Roxio Creator 9 ? and McAfee Virus Scan?

On three PCs where I have just run a full scan an alert has been thrown up saying that a "PotentiallyUnwanted Program has been found" generic PUP.x!bv running under a process in C:\Program Files\Roxio\Media Experience\DMXLauncher.exe

McAfee are non-commital and say it may be legitimate.

If anyone has Roxio can they check too ... and also post the size of DMXLauncher.exe

Hi,
I have Roxio 9 and McAfee installed on my computer. I also got a message about a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) from MCAfee while running an Ad-Aware full scan. The message listed Generic PUP.x!bv and pointed to DMXLauncher.exe.

The size of this program is 100kb on my main computer and on my laptop.

A search on Google threw up this info from McAfee.

So I have chosen to ignore this issue.

I fired a question to McAfee and to Roxio and both pointed at the other! Especially as it has only been flagged after two years of Roxio installation!

I too have ignored it - but did a complete Roxio removal and then re-install and it did re-appear so I am satisfied that it is legitimate.

Like you I have had Roxio 9 installed for a good while. Today was the first time I have seen this warning, and I have run Ad-Aware scans before. Incidentally the Ad-Aware scan did not report a problem.
My guess is that a recent McAfee update has caused this to be flagged as a problem.

Definitely McAfee as I went back to the Roxio distribution disk without updates and it flagged that.
