NortonSafeConnect installed but get DNS resolver warning.

I've decided to use Norton SafeConnect https://dns.norton.com/homeuser.html to provide DNS settings but the ttb DNS Check (in Tools) still shows :-

"Warning! We detected your IP address as 109.xxx.xxx.x and found an open DNS resolver running.

This may be either running on your computer or on your broadband router. It is advisable that you don't run a resolver which can be queried from the Internet. It is possible that you could be vulnerable to a DNS poisoning attack. .........."

This happens with settings applied to both computer and wired router.

Has anyone else found this?

Does the test do the same when you have the Norton [censored] turned off?

It did before I installed it and I'm not sure it will change if I uninstall it.
Simply turning it off does not seem to be an option but I could be wrong.

If the test reported you are running an open dns resolver BEFORE you installed the norton rubbish then it is likely your router is vulnerable and is indeed acting as a dns resolver, and that this is nothing to do with norton, unless I am getting confused. Apply latest firmware and ensure no computers/servers in your house have DNS services exposed to the internet (i.e no port 53 port forwarding etc if you're behind NAT)

Apologies for delay in replying to you but I've got my self in knots trying to update firmware.I can't open .bin file without using software from the sort of companies I suspect will try to inflict all sorts of nonsense on me.Malwarebytes certainly thinks so regarding one free file opener.

Edimax,the maker of my router,were very quick to reply to my question regarding firmware but have left me confused by their saying I need to upload something to them.

Gibson Research's "ShieldsUp" shows all ports blocked but not all are in stealth mode.


Why does the firmware update have to be in a form MS does not work with?

I gather you are no fan of Norton but for I did try Comodo DNS settings with the same result.

You dont open the bin file you upload that directly into the router.

Might be norton Give this ago and if it say is still open then you can rule out is not a "Norton" folt. http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ if it still says port 53 is open, Give another router a try if you have one spare?

All this Norton "tool" is is an alternate public DNS.
