Block all Java and Active-X?

My router has a feature for blocking either all incoming Java and Active-X, or sources of these from specific URLs. I've always been led to believe that use of downloaded Java and Active-X is a security risk. However, I'm not sure whether ALL Java and ALL Active-X is necessarily harmful. So, is it in fact good practise to block all Java and Active-X, whether doing it in the router or in the computer?

(That's Java, as opposed to JavaScript).

Any sort of feature like that on a home router, do not use, it will cause you far more trouble than it is worth.

Leave such feature switched off!

If you have Java blocked, how are you going to play Runescape?

I would leave that off with the router and have it down to you to decide whether you should block it from a site or not. Generally, if you visit a site with Flash or Active-X, which needs to access your PC, the browser will ask if you want to allow it.
