RDN/Yan...infection

Hi, whilst browsing I was confronted with the notice that my machine is infected and adviced to ring Microsoft on: 0 808 189 1317. Is this a scam? I was on well known websites. Anybody had similar experience.

Yes, it's a scam. Probably best to do a scan for malware.

Microsoft will never suggest that you contact them. This in itself is a dead give-away.

If you have no malware on your PC, then what "confronted you with the notice that your machine is infected and adviced to ring Microsoft" ?

Could just be a pop-up ad?

I use Ghostery to block ads.

Do a Google for "0-808-189-3407 pop up removal" although I think MalwareBytes free tool will help you remove it.

Basically, you've (or someone using your machine) to install a piece of malware. It usually comes bundled with freeware/shareware installers and therefore can bypass any usual pop up filters. it will have attached itself to all installed browsers (chrome, firefox, IE etc).

There are plenty of removal tools out there, but... there are also a few removers that install something else. Try malwarebytes tool first and if no luck, come back and I'll see if I can find something else. (I think Kaspersky also has a dedicated removal tool on their free download page).
