yes you can use ADSL1 routers, as i have before. but obvioulsy you wont get higher speeds. my adsl1 router syncs at max 8.2mb but it is a hell load more stable than the [censored] netgear one.

BTW - username is admin and password is sky.

I've got to agree with sifter on this one - If Sky customers don't know what is in their T&Cs to start with, its a rather silly move to sign up to something you haven't read.

The advice given to customers to use their own equipment, from how I perceive the posts, are given as a matter of opinion or suggestion - its true in saying that if someone isn't happy with the supplied router they have the ability to use another if it will server more to their purpose.

As for the abiguity about the term 'Broadband Box' used in the T&Cs with regards to the customer must connect using their Broadband Box; it will be wise for someone who is worried about breaking the T&Cs to see if the term 'Broadband Box' is not more clearly defined at the beginning of the T&Cs document.

All in all, we live in a free country; people can make suggestions (based solely on their own opinion) and other can make their own decisions and act on the suggestions or not - in the end people are responsible for their own actions!

If you have the free or mid package then these are ADSL1 and should pose no issues with using an ADSL1 router - however if you are on the max package, why would you wanna use an adsl1 modem on an adsl2 connection?

Unless I'm getting it wrong and the modem is ADSL2 or you are on free or mid package.

It really doesn't affect sky in any negative way to choose a better router for your needs, and if it gives people a better connection/better lan and or wireless lan ,then its definately a good idea to change your router if you feel confident in what you are doing.

actually I don't.
The service provider is providing you with a CPE which it says you must use to connect to their network.
If there are problems with the CPE, and you don't use it, and don't tell them, then those problems just won't get fixed.

Broadband Box is a term that is defined at the beginning of the T&Cs I believe.

Erm, despite the fact I really shouldn't be bothered to argue the point; the problems are inherent in the router design and firmware, both of these are out of Sky's control. And anyway, by using a different router I can fix it myself. Instantly. Permanently. Efficiently. Why are you so upset about this concept?

my old Belkin ADSL1 router works 10x better than this [censored] sky netgear router. I dont think its right for sky to hold customers to use the crappy router that they provide if it continueously looses connection and freezes up. So if i can get a better router, i will!

I'm using my 3com one now although to be honest I only used the sky one for about 3 hours and it seemed to preform no different to this one

and if you're not telling them it's [censored], but just using a different modem/router - how will they know the scale of the problem?
