Logging On/Off 10-20 times per hour

Hiya,

Got an open ticket at the moment, seems very unstable.
I can hear noise on the phone when any router is plugged in as well.

BT have found an error, anything else I could do in the meantime?

Regards.

Try a different filter? Or just try unplugging your Sky TV box from the phone line to check to see if that resolves it?

I have been having to reboot my router very frequently due to an inactive connection, the router shows I am connected, I just cannot access the internet.

I read a post somewhere else where someone was having to do the same and they cured it by placing the Sky Netgear router on it's end using the plastic brackets provided.

These routers are renowned for overheating, and this helps keep the router cool.

I have done this with mine this afternoon and so fa, so good, I have been online for over an hour and had no connection problems, It's early days yet but normally I would have rebooted the router 3-4 times by now.

Hope this helps.

If this does solve your disconnection problems then I guess I can now understand why many people have chosen to use there own!!!

I was not too happy when I found out that Sky would be using the Netgear DG834GT Router.

My first experience with routers was with this very model abut a year ago, could get it to work OK via ethernet, however the wireless signal was nearly non wxistant with my laptop sat right next to it. Tried everything. new firmware, different settings, other laptops, nothing made any difference, even Tech Support had no idea. Eventually sent the thing back for a replacement.

The replacement was exactly the same and still to this day it sits in a drawer, looks very pretty but is useless a s a router.

I hate the Netgear DG834GT and will soon be swapping it for one of the Linksys routers.

LOL - The experience has been the other way round for me... While Io was with PlusNet, I used a Linksys router - my first wireless router; and it was hell... weak signal, kept loosing wireless connection - the link to the internet was great, just the d**n wireless kept giving me problems!

Now with the Netgear one supplied by Sky, it seems a sort of blessing as I didn't wanna spend money on another router - so this free one seemed to be the answer. After setting up security and networking options as I required, the router has been running strong for months now, great wireless signal and overall great performance - Funny how the story can be reversed from person to person; it seems that these netgear routers are unpredictable from unit to unit!

EDIT: Spelling!

The most common problem with the netgear and Sky is the UPnP,some would argue that it is not, but reported to fix it, it definitely is.

Turn the UPnP off in the router settings and see how you get on.
